Encouraging Careers in the Visual Arts

AWARDS
Scholarships for study in the visual arts for Maryland high school seniors range from $500 to $3,000 and will be credited to the student’s tuition accounts at accredited institutions. In 2007, awards totaled over $25.000.

JURYING
Occurs in two stages:

  1. Applicants submit 5 jpegs on CD for the selection of 25 finalists.
  2. Finalists submit original artwork for portfolio judging and selection of winners

CALENDAR 2008
Friday, December 21 • 3:30 PM
Deadline for slide or CD entries
(5 jpegs images per student).

Saturday, January 5
Digital image jury at Faulkner Ridge Center
(25 finalists, and 5 runner-ups chosen).

Monday, January 7
Notification letters mailed to all entrants and posted on MAEF’s web site.

Tuesday, January 15
RSVP Deadline. Any of the 25 finalists who DO NOT notify MAEF of their attendance at the January 19 Portfolio Jury, WILL BE REPLACED by a runner-up.

Saturday, January 19
Portfolio Jury at Faulkner Ridge Center (no more than 10 pieces per student). Scholarship winners determined and artwork chosen for exhibit.

Friday, February 22 • 6:00 PM
Closing reception and Awards Ceremony at Howard County Department of Education Board Rooms

MAEF is a volunteer non-profit organization founded for the purpose of awarding scholarships to high school seniors planning to pursue a college education in the visual arts.
